A New Chapter for the Adelaide Giants

This week marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Adelaide Giants, with Black Pearl Sports Group taking on the operation and management of the club.
Pelligra Group, who have supported the Giants through a period of significant on-field success, remain a proud partner of the club and will continue to play a role in its future.
We shared this news with Giants members first. They have invested their time, energy and support into this club, and we felt they deserved to hear directly from us before the wider announcement.
This is a longer version of that message and an opportunity to share openly with the broader South Australian baseball community about where we go from here.
First Things First
Our immediate priority is practical: making sure Adelaide has a team on the field in November and Giants baseball for people to come and enjoy.
There is a significant amount of work happening behind the scenes to make that possible. We are working closely with players, staff, sponsors, volunteers, vendors, Baseball South Australia and people throughout the local baseball community to make the transition as smooth as we can.
At the same time, we have a responsibility to build a club that is financially sustainable for years to come. We want to be transparent about that from the beginning, because it will influence a lot of the decisions we make this season and beyond.
Being Honest About Sustainability
Professional baseball in Australia has faced its share of challenges. Too often, clubs have operated at significant losses until the people supporting them reach a point where that can no longer continue.
That pattern is the biggest threat to the sport’s future, and it is not one we are willing to repeat in Adelaide.
We will look carefully at where the Giants invest and continually ask whether that investment helps bring people to the ballpark, grows the game, improves the organisation or strengthens the club for the future. That will mean doing some things differently.
But sustainability does not simply mean spending less. It means being deliberate about where we invest.
Where we can operate more efficiently, we will. That gives us the opportunity to direct resources towards the areas we believe can have the greatest long-term impact including the fan experience, community connection and development of future players.
We want to build an organisation capable of competing with ambition while having the foundations to be here for generations to come.
Three Areas of Focus
Across the sporting organisations we operate, there are some principles we believe strongly in. How they come to life will be different in Adelaide because every club, market and community is different.
For the Giants, three areas will be particularly important.
1. Creating a game day people want to be part of
We will invest in making a Giants game a night out worth choosing: the atmosphere, the food and drinks, the entertainment between innings, the way families and first-timers are welcomed, and the small details that make people want to come back.
We have learned a lot about what works, and what does not, from operating the Perth Heat and Sydney Blue Sox, and we will bring the best of that to Adelaide. We will also be listening closely to what Giants fans actually want, rather than assuming we already know.
2. Bringing the Giants closer to the baseball community
The Giants do not exist in isolation. They sit on top of a South Australian baseball community made up of clubs, juniors, coaches, umpires, volunteers and families who have kept the game alive for generations.
We will work closely with Baseball South Australia and the state’s clubs to make sure the Giants are a genuine part of that community, not just a professional team that happens to play in the same city. That means Giants players and staff visible at local clubs, real pathways between grassroots and the ABL, and a club that the whole South Australian baseball family feels some ownership of. When the local game is strong, the Giants are strong, and the reverse is just as true.
3. Building pathways for the next generation
If we are serious about sustainability, we have to be serious about developing our own talent. A club that has to buy its roster every year is a club that is always one tough season away from trouble.
This is where a significant share of our investment will go. Building a proper Giants academy and development pathway is one of the most important things we can do for the club and for the sport in South Australia. We want young South Australian players to see a clear road from junior baseball to the Giants, and to see the Giants as a place where they will be developed, not just used. This will take time to bear fruit, and we would rather start now than keep putting it off.
What Will Not Change
The Adelaide Giants are much more than a professional sporting operation.
There is history here. There are championships and traditions. More importantly, there are relationships, families and people who have invested years of their lives into this club. We respect that.
You will see some systems and processes aligned across the sporting organisations we operate. That allows us to work efficiently, share resources and build stronger organisations. But Adelaide will remain Adelaide.
Our intention is not to turn the Giants into the Perth Heat or Sydney Blue Sox. It is to provide the operational support, resources and long-term thinking that can help the Giants grow while protecting the characteristics that make this club distinctly South Australian.
Building It Together
We will not pretend we will get every decision right immediately. If there are traditions you want maintained, areas you believe need to change, or ideas that would make your experience better, please tell us.
Please take 5–10 minutes to complete our fan survey and tell us what you love about the Giants, which traditions matter most, what you would like to see changed and how we can improve your experience. Your feedback will help shape what comes next.
A full ballpark and a strong future for the Giants will take the support of the entire community. We are looking forward to earning it.
See you in November.
