Black Pearl Sports Group (BPSG) is pleased to confirm it has formally assumed the license of the Perth Heat Baseball Club, one of Australia’s most successful and storied professional sports franchises.
The acquisition aligns with BPSG’s long-term strategy of owning and operating multiple elite-level teams, and the opportunity to work with a flagship club like the Heat accelerated those plans.
“First, I want to acknowledge the proud and long-standing legacy of baseball in Western Australia, a legacy that includes 15 Claxton Shield championships,” said BPSG Managing Director Cole Sherertz. “But legacy isn’t enough. We’re here to bring back a championship culture. From the Perth Heat franchise to our grassroots pathways and elite performance teams, competing for titles isn’t a goal; it’s the baseline expectation. That mindset drives every decision we make, on the field, in the front office, and across our organisation.”
From the state’s debut in the national Claxton Shield competition in 1937 through decades of evolving team identities, Western Australia has been a force in Australian baseball. The Perth Heat, in their modern professional form, represent the continuation of that proud tradition. BPSG now aims to honour the past while building a bold and sustainable future.
“We are committed to deepening our roots in Perth while growing the game for future generations. It’s about building a future that honours the past while redefining what’s possible. While our broader ambition and operating model have always centred on owning and elevating multiple franchises across the sporting landscape, our values remain the same: to create meaningful opportunities, invest in youth, and build something that inspires pride at every level of the game.”
“It is truly an honour and privilege to help shape the next chapter of this incredible story.”
BPSG appreciates the ongoing support of the WA Government for baseball in Western Australia. We are committed to working collaboratively with Baseball WA and Baseball Australia to strengthen community participation and enhance development pathways, ensuring the Perth Heat play a central role in the sport’s next phase of growth.
BPSG also extends its thanks to Baseball WA for their constructive engagement and shared commitment to developing the game across the state, and to Baseball Australia for their support during this transition.
As the Heat prepare for a much-anticipated return to the ABL for the 2025/26 season, BPSG is excited to build momentum on and off the field in the lead-up to the World Baseball Classic.
We invite baseball fans and the wider sporting community to rally behind the Heat as a new chapter begins.
